BILL TRILLER CUP
JULY 17-19, 2009

Bill Triller was the field and facility manager here at SBPRC for many years
who sadly passed away last winter. We are proud to have a new tournament this year in his honor.

Fri. July 17 3:00 pm Exhibition Game
Mansour vs. Audi

Sun. July 19 3:00 pm Final: Audi defeated Mansour 15-11
Audi Polo ran away today with the Bill Triller Memorial Cup in a 15-11 victory over Mansour. This is a new tournament at Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club held in honor of the late Bill Triller, who was the highly respected head groundsman here for many years.

The grandstands were full of people eager to watch 20 goal polo, but it took a little while for the game to get moving. The first two chukkers were rough as the players tested the umpire's whistles. Finally, after a stern warning from the umpires in the 3rd chukker the game opened up with some nice end to end runs from Adam Snow and Juan Bollini. At halftime the game Audi held a mere one goal lead of 8-7.

In the 4th chukker Ben Soleimani's Mansour team exploded for three unanswered goals. But in the 5th chukker Audi fought back, starting with a great breakaway goal from Bollini. Audi briefly moved ahead at 11-10, but then Adam Snow hit a backshot to a running Santi Trotz, whose path to goal was clear since Martin Zegers took the opposing play out of the play, practically to the sideboards.

With the score all tied up in the 6th chukker, Luis Escobar theaded a pass through the opposition to find Bollini just yards from the goal mouth. Bollini made the goal to put Audi ahead, and the rest of the 6th chukker was all Escobar as he scored three unanswered goals. So Melissa Ganzi and her Audi team maintained Audi's undefeated streak that began in the Skene last summer.

In the curtain raiser game the local Surf and Turf players warmed up the crowd with an entertaining game between La Maria and Beverly Hills. Thomas Caleel led La Maria to a 14-9 victory with his 9 goals.
