Off The Horse: Sarah Magness

Name:  Sarah Magness
Age: Secret
From: Boulder, CO
Playing For:  Dundas

When did you start playing polo?

What do you love most about the sport?
I love how this sport humbles us reminding me each day I need to work harder, practice more and ride better. I am each day grateful for the power and teamwork of the horses below the saddle and how I am only as good as my string.

What’s the most challenging aspect of polo?
Polo is the sport you can never master.  There is always something new to learn, never enough time to practice and always a better horse to buy.

Tell us about your horses (or your favorite horse)?
My best horses run low to the ground, have a smooth gate and turn quickly. I love a horse with a big heart, able to feel they want to make the goal as much as you do.

Favorite pre-match meal?
I have a hard time eating before I play so usually something from the Red Kettle like a latte with extra whipped cream!

What’s your favorite thing to do in Santa Barbara when you’re off duty?
I love to workout at the polo club, cruise around town visiting the local shops and best of all hang out at our polo fields with our farm animals.

Where will polo take you next this year?
I will be in Miami playing beach polo this week,  then Rome playing with Nacho and Prince Harry, then NYC for the Veuve. Then I play in Aspen and Denver and WELLINGTON. Of course Santa Barbara always in between, we play year round here and if it rains we hit the arena!!!!
