American Flag Artwork on Display at SBPRC
The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club was so honored to be presented with a beautiful American flag, made from hoses used in the Thomas Fire. Thanks to the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation for creating this special program and also to Farmers & Merchants Bank for generously sponsoring this special flag. This flag was the concept of Firefighter/artist John Carrillo, who made the first flag as a gift upon the retirement of Captain Pat McElroy. In doing so, the concept was expanded by John & Hazel Blankenship of Pierre Claeyssens Veteran’s Foundation to extend an opportunity to commission additional flags from the Montecito Fire Department hoses, used in the 2017 Thomas Fire. Throughout the disaster, the club welcomed hundreds of first responders from across the state to set up camp, rest and eat, and took in hundreds of horses and animals in need of shelter. The club is honored to receive this special flag, which will be on display at the clubhouse for the entire community to enjoy.
